Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How should I store my coffee?

A: Use a sealable bag or mason jar and store in a cool/dark place. Some people recommend the freezer.  NOT recommended to store in the refrigerator, can affect the coffee’s flavor.

Q: How long does coffee stay fresh?

A: Whole bean coffee is best used within the first two weeks.  Ground coffee begins to lose its freshness after about 10 minutes.  It is always recommended to grind your coffee right before brewing. We sell good quality starter grinders at our retail location.  Freshly ground coffee is the single most important factor in great tasting coffee.

Q: What type of grinder should I buy?

A burr grinder is best but a blade grinder will do a decent job. Burr grinders grind more evenly and the grinder’s ability to grind will last much longer. There are also brewers that have a build-in-grinder.

Q: How should I grind my coffee?

A:

·        Cold Brew/French Press - Coarse

·        Percolator – Medium Coarse

·        Drip Brewer/K-cup – Medium

·        Pour Over – Medium Fine/Fine

·        Aeropress – Fine

·        Espresso/Moka Pot – Espresso Grind

Q: What is the difference between Single Origin and Blend?

A: Single Origin means that the coffee bean was grown in one specific region in the world. All our coffees that are named by a country are single origins. Blends are two or more single origins mixed together.

Q: What is your breakfast blend?

A: House Blend, a breakfast blend consists of multiple medium roasted single origin coffees.

Q: Do you have espresso beans?

A: E&S, a medium roasted blend that pulls a syrupy and delicious shot of espresso. Any coffee can be used for espresso, espresso only refers to the method of brewing. If you like a darker shot of espresso, try our Ironmen Blend or another dark roast. A blend is usually best for espresso because it gives more complexity and flavor.

Q: What is the strongest coffee you have?

A: In our experience, when people refer to the term “strong” they mean “dark” or “bold”. If this is what they are looking for we recommend Sumatra Xtra Dark. Additionally, our Ironmen blend is a popular dark blend.

Q: Do you have any chemical free Decaf coffee?

A: Decaf coffee is produced from pulling the caffeine out of a green coffee bean. There are two popular methods, chemical and natural. The most popular and cheapest option uses chemicals. The most popular natural method is Swiss Water, where beans sit in hot water to extract the caffeine. Most of our decafs are naturally decaffeinated, but to be sure purchase our Brazil Decaf.
